Caravanning Now - How do I stop my Thetford toilet opening seizing over winter?

This is the simplest of the lot.

Before packing the van away, after emptying the toilet and the water containers, close the 'dispatch hatch' and either:

  1. Pour enough olive oil onto the hatch to cover it (about 2 tablespoons) or
  2. Spray the hatch with a silicon spray.

If your rotating knob is smooth, then there is an upgrade kit available from Thetfords, which uses a knob with finger grips + some other parts.
